2005 Bryant 10 SEER 4-ton r22 air conditioner is moderately low on refrigerant charge running at 43 PSI suction and 45 superheat with 157 discharge pressure Equipment is 20 years old this season and three generations of refrigerant old. No repairs or leak searches are available. Recharge only with R422D and new calgon Max seal leak stop Equipment factory charge is 6.25 lb of R22 not including coil and additional line set Today's system recharge required 67 Oz (4.125lbs) to achieve a somewhat acceptable running pressure. Head pressure and subcooling are normal to high, superheat is normal, suction temperature is normal, suction pressure is very low. These are all indicators of a worn out evaporator coil inside not absorbing and transferring heat energy properly. Recommend budgeting for new basement system equipment in the near future. EPA regulations only permit one refrigerant recharge per a year
Preventative maintenence inspection on two Waterfurnace 5 Series units, one package and one split. Air filters are in good condition. Visual inspection of air coils. Package unit flush condensate pan and trap. Attic split system blew out entire drain line with gallow drain gun. Run test units in cooling mode from thermostats. Non pressurized ground loop system running pressures, and temperatures within spec. Air delta t is within spec. Did not check refrigerant pressures as there is no issues suspected at this time. My air conditioning stopped working. I called Westin Air and Heating, an LLC company in Westerville, OH. Seth, with that company, came out to diagnose our air conditioning problem. I had previously contacted Rightway, also a local Columbus, Ohio company, who told me my compressor was bad and that they had to order a part. From that point on, they never responded or scheduled a followup appointment. They also never responded to any of my calls, resulting in a lot of frustration. Hence I called Westin Air and Heat on the advice of a friend. Seth identified the problem which was that the compressor was not getting power. He replaced that piece ($118 approx. price vs a new compressor at probably around $1500), and we now have a properly working air conditioning system. Seth was prompt, professional, knowledgeable and honest. I will definitely recommend Westin Air and Heat any time I can. Can't say enough good things about them!
